Server Administration and Support

Server Infrastructure

The server infrastructure covers central servers and the applications running on the servers. Services currently provided on these

central facilities are:

Serversi.) Exchange email system that provides a common email service to all CGIAR Centres including  replication of public folders to other CG sites.

ii.)Internet Proxing and content filtering.

iii.)Local services publishing to the internet.

iv.)Authentication, Authorization, & Identity Management using active directory.

v.)Hosting of Centre databases for Information Services, GIS, Research, Human Resources and Finance among others.

vi.)DNS and DHCP services.

vii.)Virtual Private Network services for site to site connectivity and teleworkers.

viii.)Licensing servers for research units.

ix.)Central file storage

The Central File Storage service provides centralized network file storage that enables storage of information in a common, reliable, highly available,

network-accessible  and sharing of information among staff. ICT Services are continually updating these facilities to provide the most efficient,

available and appropriate services to staff.

In the coming months we plan to upgrade the current services by completing turn key projects listed below:

Ongoing projects
i).     Upgrade of Active Directory services based on Windows 2008 R2

ii).    Upgrades of helpdesk system and SharePoint services

iii.).  Upgrade of ISA from the current 2004 to the latest

iv).   Storage upgrade

v).   Server Consolidation and Virtualization of business and infrastructure systems
